How do I manually download the Colorize model?
Last updated
VueScan 9.8.37 and later includes a Colorize model that can be used to colorize black and white photos. VueScan will automatically offer to download this model for you. But sometimes there are issues with the automatic download, and you may need to manually download the model.
First, download the model file that matches your system. VueScan uses a different model depending on how it accelerates the AI, so the file must match your platform:
- Windows (most Windows 10 and 11 systems, which use WinML): vuescan-colorize-dyn-fp16-v1.bin
- macOS (10.15 and later, uses Apple’s Core ML): vuescan-colorize-45-v1-mlmc.bin
- Linux, or older Windows/macOS without the above: vuescan-colorize-20-fp16-v1.bin
If you download the wrong file, VueScan won’t recognize it and will keep trying to download the correct one. When in doubt, use the file listed for your operating system above.
Next, copy the file to the same directory as your vuescan.log file. The default location for the those directories are:
- Windows:
C:\Users\<Your Username>\Pictures\VueScan - macOS:
~/Pictures/VueScan/ - Linux:
~/.vueScan/
